The dungeon can be read without colour, and the switch is saved to your
account rather than asked for again every session.

color Report whether colour is currently on or off.
color on Send colour codes as usual.
color off Send plain text everywhere — prose, banners, the
status line and the charge bars alike.

Either setting is written to your account the moment you type it: it
applies to every window you have open, and to every session you open
afterwards, until you change it back.

Checking what your client can render:

color ansi The 16-colour swatch most clients support.
color xterm256 The 256-colour xterm swatch.
      color truecolor The truecolor swatch.

The swatches still work while colour is off — they print their own markup
plainly — so you can test a client before switching back. See
'help color' for the command itself.

    Before you log in:

screenreader Typed at the login screen, this strips the framing
and decoration from what the server sends. There is
no account to remember it yet, so it lasts only for
that connection. Once you are in, 'color off' saves
itself, and 'option/save screenreader = on' saves
the screen-reader mode the same way.

    The status line:

prompt off Hide the status line printed after every action,
                         for a quieter or screen-reader-friendly session;
                         'prompt on' brings it back.

Everything else about your connection — encoding, screen width, MXP —
    lives on the 'option' command.
